Arterial aging as a cardiovascular risk factor

Abstract: The elastic arterial walls undergo structural and functional changes by age. Nevertheless, there is no close correspondence between the patient age and arterial aging. Arterial aging rather than patient age should be considered as a cardiovascular risk factor. The review is focused on the major constituents of the age of the arterial wall, and the main criteria for its calculation are determined.
